Nigeria’s Social Networking Sites on Alexa Top 100

Three months ago, I reviewed Nigeria’s Most Visited Web Startups on Alexa Top 100 Sites and my review generated several reactions from this blog’s readers. Today, I thought I should review Nigeria’s most visited social networking sites on the Alexa Top 100. (Alexa is the leading Web Ranking & Information Company).

From my research, I found that two popular sites that where not included in my first analysis have made it into the most visited Alexa Top 100 sites in Nigeria.

Naijapals.com (Ranked 43 out of 100) - A growing social networking site in Nigeria that offers several interesting features that reflects what a real social networking site should be. I have reviewed Naijapals on StartupsNigeria here and here. Current Alexa ranking - 27, 227

Legwork.com.ng (Ranked 75 out of 100) - A Nigerian networking community that lets you meet others for various reasons such as business contacts, career networking, dating and finding old or meeting new friends. Current Alexa ranking - 27, 230. I have reviewed Legwork here in a comparative web analysis with onlinenigeria.com

Meanwhile, other highly visited social networking sites include: Facebook.com (ranked 4th), Hi5.com (ranked 11th), Myspace.com (ranked 19th), Perfspot.com (ranked 24th), Orkut.com (Ranked 25th), Adultfriendfinder.com (ranked 50th), Bebo.com (ranked 53rd), Flickr.com (ranked 73rd), Fanbox.com (ranked 74th).

Both those social networks look like they using the same software to power them as well as they pretty much are using the same layout….

Where is the innovation in these sites? Check out Blueworld.co.za - a real startup in South Africa, built on their own platform.

@JBagley - I agree with you about those social networks. On the other hand, Blueworld is quite unique and I hope that Nigerian startups are watching rather than copying.

Thanks for your visit and comment!

That’s a good point brother, its important that our people become creative. No copy copy! To really bring about change and profitability they must offer something unique not just me-too deal.

They should work with groups and find a VC if possible. This is a global village and I see Nigerian sites become profitable soonest.

jbagely, you are talking rubbish. that site you just posted is also a ‘ready made template’ from one of the well known social/dating software publishers. nothing interesting about it.
