Zain Nigeria cuts off 63% on international call rates

I’ve not been a huge fan of Zain Nigeria (formerly Celtel Nigeria), but I think the mobile company will enjoy my patronage from now:-) Zain Nigeria has just introduced a Super Duper offer that allows people on their network to save up to 63% on international call rates. Geez!

From October to December 2008, all Zain Customers will pay only N12 per minute when they make a call to fixed lines in the U.K, Canada and the U.S during off-peak periods on weekdays and weekends. What a better way to enjoy the holidays?

With the new price offer, Zain now has the most cost effective international call rates among the major operators in Nigeria. Other GSM operators charge N40.00 per minute or about 67 kobo (N0.67) per seconds for international calls to prime locations across the world.

According to Zain Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ligali, callers will enjoy the benefit of paying this reduced call rate when they make calls between 10.00pm and 6.00am daily and during weekends (from 10pm on Friday to 5.59am on Monday).

Ligali said the introduction of new international call rates is in line with the company‘s business strategy of creating additional value for customers and helping Nigerians keep in touch with their family members and foreign business partners at an affordable rate.

“This Offer is designed to save customers the inconvenience of carrying several phones, one for local calls and another for international calls because of the differing inter-network tariff”, he said.

Hey folks, I’m off to get my Zain Nigeria SIM pack!:-D

Yuppie!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, I think this is a commendable effort by the Zain crew. Good for you, Loy! I’m not convinced anyway, if I love anything with a service I patronizes; it’s consistency and that’s one thing the Ec…. don’t mind me, the Vm….. Oh! Sorry, I mean to say the Zain guys, keep struggling with. Since, I’m not a pessimist, I’ll am hoping for something more convincing, so I can resurrect my Zain Sim Card from the “God knows where I threw it” corner. I’m sticking with my Glo and MTN now even though those two also make you so furious at times.

No problem sha! Na naija factor

I honestly do not agree with your inconsistency theory, Edundayo.
The name changes were borne out of circumstances, except if you are bent on showing gracelessness or downright mischief. The company dropped Econet when it parted ways with its international partners, Econet Wireless International(EWI).
It changed to Vodacom, because the South African operator wanted to buy into the NIgerian company. The deal deal fell through after the name change and the company had to adopt Vmobile overnight-literally. In 2006, Celtel International invested $1.05b in the company, it was natural to change to Celtel. As for Zain, it was as result of a global brand alignment. One thing is for sure, the company has remain a constant as a Northern Star in terms of delivering good quality of service and is consistently striving towards becoming world class very soon.

I think I agree with Chukwuemeka! The name changes where actually as a result of circumstances, not cos the network is not reliable.

    Dont miss the point though..

    1. Commendable effort by Zain

    2. The network is not as stable or does not compare to MTN or Glo.

All these Providers face different challenges which make it extremely difficult for them to provide good service so i dont blame them too. Do you know your calls drop atimes because some crooks just stole the Generator powering up the Cell Site handling your call or The Gen ran out of diesel amongst others… and atimes greed.. they keep rolling out services over an already congested network…

Baseline is that they all have issues, some more than others but none is reliable.

    Thats whats up !

    If reliability is 99.00%

  7. Skillachi, 28. October 2008, 16:17

But with time, most of the challenges will be overcome… very very soon.

i think i like evry thin about zain, but you can do more for us in the South-South. At list, let us feel ur presence since ur the only South-South friendly gsm service providers. All other service providers centre their promos and support programs at lagos and Abuja. But u have chosen the South-South like ur community tarif and others so keep it up.
