Alexa Top 100 Sites in Nigeria Goes Wacky…No Nigerian Site Listed?
Today, I wanted to get an update of the Top 100 websites visited in Nigeria, and was surprised to see that no Nigerian website is on the Top 100.
Sometime in May, I reviewed the most visited web startups and forums in Nigeria and the results from Alexa showed Nairaland ranked 13th, Naijahotjobs ranked 36th, NewNigerians ranked 70th, CareersNigeria ranked 78th, AllJobsNigeria ranked 80th, and Naijaecash ranked 99th.
In September, I noticed that two social networking sites - Naijapals and Legwork - have made their way into the Alexa Top 100 Sites in Nigeria, ranking 43rd and 75th respectively.
Today, none of these sites were anywhere to be found. Not even Nairaland, which is regarded as Nigeria’s most popular web destination. I hope this is not my system confusing me, but if it’s not, Alexa had better check their errors!
Update: Alexa has adjusted their algorithms. Hurraaaaaaaaayyyyy!!!!
yep I noticed the same thing today….Alexa is trippin for some reason.
yeah, same applies to Alexa Top 100 sites in south africa. Hmm…Alexa again!
by now every one must stop looking to alexa for accurate web mining of traffic .Fact is alexa sucks big time their algorithms are based on the toolbar being installed on browsers from clients accessing your website. they even claim categorically this statement. use quantcast or compete . much better ! if your site is a web savvy destination then alexa will rock yr world but if it is a site for newbies who have no idea what web ranking is then oops yr alexa will suck even worse than alexa itself . past few months has shown us what alexa is not . a competent tool for advertisers looking to put their ads on your site .our site jumped from 1milion plus to 167,000 and is trying to stabilise at 200,000 ! now after abt 3months ! http://www.9jabook.com . another of our sister sites huhuonline tremendously jumped from 1million which it had been on for a year to less than 200,000 in 2months and this was b4 emeka asiwe the owner was arrested by the SSS
