Waseet - Nigerian Free Weekly Classifieds Ads Publication Launched

Waseet is a free weekly classified advertising publication that is in circulation in 12 countries. The publication was unveiled in Lagos on December 12 by Adwise Integrated Resources, a Nigerian media solutions company, under franchise from alWaseet International, a Dubai-based international publishing conglomerate.

The newspaper, which offers a range of classified ads for people to buy, sell and get informed, has no cover price, and is given out free every week. The classifieds offer a range of products, services and items for sale in eight different categories that include real estate, automotive, electronics and technology.

The circulation of Waseet will begin in Lagos, and later major cities such as Abuja and Port Harcourt. Waseet’s circulation around the world is said to be around 5.8 million copies and read by 20 million people every week in Arabic, English and Polish languages.

The brain behind the emergence of Waseet into the Nigerian market is Mr. Kolawole Abiola, son of the late Billionaire, Politician and Publisher, Chief M.K.O Abiola, who is highly excited about the project, and said, “Adwise’s goal is to revolutionise the way that organisations and businesses of all sizes access the Nigerian consumer. High-impact targeted advertising will become affordable to all clients and budgets”.

The plan is to franchise Waseet newspaper in eastern Europe, Africa, India and South-East Asia and Waseet Lagos will be the seventh publication on the African continent, according to AWI Managing Director, Mr. John Fawaz, who also noted that Waseet Nigeria fitted perfectly into AWI’s aggressive expansion plan aimed at reaching 100 Waseet publications by 2012.

With a starting circulation of 150,000 copies, Fawaz predicted that Waseet will become the largest distributed newspaper in Nigeria within a short period of time.

The concept of a free weekly magazine is a truly revolutionary one, even on a mind-boggling scale! Theres no telling how far reaching its impact on the nigerian society would be, especially if the cost of advertising was reduced to a bearest, for SMEs in particular, every company(especially start-ups) in Nigeria would fight for representation.Easily the next big thing after GSM and IFA. Kudos!
