My Opinion
Well, a good move from the ladies and should be commended. I think that the Nigerian blogging community is long overdue for an awards ceremony. The categories are quite ok, except that there’s none for Best Technology Blog, Best Rambling Blog, etc
Again, the announcement was very sudden (February 22, 2009), while nominations began February 24th. This perhaps didn’t give enough room for more bloggers to be part of it and also include other categories. I think there should be at least 2-4 weeks of publicity before nomination starts for these kind of awards.
Here’s a simple idea of what a Bloggers Award should look like. See SA Blog Awards 2008 and Bloggers Choice Awards 2008. However, it’ll be nice to see how the Naija Bloggers Award 2009 goes and I’ll be watching the progress in the next few days…
@loy

wow, those SA awards are not a joke. When Nigerian blogsville gets to that point….
Your suggestions are very good. I think that in the future, there needs to be a Best Economics Blog category as well. That will be a good way to encourage more diversity in the blog community.
Hope all is well.
I say startups nigeria will win something here its the only blog i ever follow all other blogs suck hard
@Oyelaja if there was an award for most immature and foul-mouthed commenter you would win it
@Possicon - Way to go…
@Solomonsydelle - We’re there already…just watch this space!;-)
naija bloggers are stepping it up! look at bella naija… look at what pinksatin n opeke are doing with blog idol..a singing competition that has gone on for two years!
However, this is not the first naija blog award in blogville.there was one in 2006 or 2007 when the likes of tminx,belle,imoted etc were bloggers
Well whatever, all I know is that this really something to cherish and celebrate, like the saying “despise not humble beginnings, every giant was once a kid”. I totally agree with Loy’s opinion though, even as our dear blogosphere is gradually and steadily sailing to it’s desired destination. Kudos! To everyone behind the gradual and steady sailing.
NAIJA! We are keeping the pace and making our dreams alive.
Good job they doing loving it
