Naijalingo now lets you listen to those slangwords:-)

Naijalingo has just released a new feature that lets you listen to the pronunciation of words on the word page. So when you add a new word on Naijalingo, you can upload a recording for the word.

Sounds interesting, doesn’t it?

Naijalingo currently has over 600 words, which means that all the recordings for each word has to be done. So where are those guys and girls who want to be a radio star, but couldn’t make it through the auditions? Here is your chance to be heard on the web;-)

How does it work?

For every word on Naijalingo, there is a box like the one below that allows you to upload an mp3 file once you are logged into the Naijalingo community.

Then follow these 3 simple steps:

  1. Say the word with the correct Nigerian pronunciation
  2. Pause a little (1 or 2 seconds) then say the example.
  3. Save the file as an MP3 and then upload it.

The file will then be reviewed by Naijalingo to ensure you followed the guidelines and within two hours or less your beautiful voice will be on Naijalingo and you can show off to all your friends and get them to listen to it too:-)

My take

This is one great feature from the Naijalingo team. Perhaps the only Nigerian site that lets you add your own voice recordings to a community. Beyond the networking and interation this could bring, it will also help people who can read the words but do not know how to pronounce them.

A great way for people to feature on the site - having their own voices heard on the Naijalingo community. It would be interesting to hear different (strange) voices from people. Some may pronounce the words very well, while others may mess it up. But I’m sure that the team would have to review every pronounciation in order to ensure that the words have been pronounced well.

I should get my voice up there, and I’ll share it here soon;-)
