WebTrends.com Threatens Nigerian Site WebTrendsNg.com

Nigerian self-acclaimed web strategist, Sherrif Shittu (aka Possicon) has recieved a threat letter from the lawyer representing the US based web analytics company, WebTrends, Inc., concerning the use of the WEBTRENDS mark in his domain name.

Apparently, the domain name (www.webtrendsng.com) was recently registered by Mr. Sherrif Shittu, and is being used to track web trends in Nigeria. On the other hand, the domain name (www.webtrends.com) was registered since December 1995 and claims full ownership of the brand name, trade mark, domain name, etc, which means that any company or website that uses that name ‘Web Trends’ could mean a violation of trademark laws and could result in a case of trademark infringement.

419 Radio - Social Networking Site for Scammers?

Whether you have been scammed before or not, I’m very sure that the very knowledge of an internet radio with the name 419 is probably not the best place to be. Perhaps for some who are curious.

419 Radio is an online Nigerian internet radio service that offers free music in order to promote artists and producers in Nigeria’s emerging entertainment industry. The internet radio can be used to promote movies, songs, artists, events and other features in the entertainment industry.

What Are The Features?

419 Radio’s player (on beta) continues to shuffle Nigerian songs of various genres non-stop. The whole idea is to have a true radio that plays random high quality Nigerian songs from urban to oldies. The player limits the number of times you can skip songs before it forces you to listen to a full song.

The site currently streams approximately 500 Nigerian songs and the number keeps increasing everyday. The site has 6 votes on Sturvs (as at the time of writing this post).

It has been a while since the term “Web 2.0″ has been making a buzz around the webspace and as usual, global web brands as well as web developers and enthusiasts have helped spread the word. Often described as the next generation of the internet, Web 2.0 has meant several things to several people.

If you ask me, I think Web 2.0 is simply the web re-branded for business and social interaction. Although, we’ve seen several definitions of Web 2.0 from various sources, none describes it as the make-believe we see in the movies. It’s real.

Tim O’Reilly, the guy who originated the Web 2.0 term described it in the following traits:

  • The Web As Platform
  •  Harnessing Collective Intelligence
  • Data is the Next Intel Inside
  • End of the Software Release Cycle
  • Lightweight Programming Models
  • Software Above the Level of a Single Device
  • Rich User Experiences
