If You Can’t Buy A MacBook, Get A Zinox Notebook Laptop

Zinox Technologies, Nigeria’s first computer manufacturing company has just launched a laptop computer called BijimiPRO which can store power for a minimum of 13 hours. According to Zinox, the laptop is a product of 18 months of extensive research with its technical partners.

The Zinox BijimiPRO has been described as ‘the digital bull’, robust but very stylish and built especially “for professionals that wish to survive the global financial crisis”, according to Zinox’s Head, Corporate Communications, Mr Echika Ezuka.

The Notebook which has been certified by Intel Corporation and Microsoft runs on latest Intel Power Processors T3400 and P8600, with 2.16GHz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, and has features like 15.4 inch display screen, Webcam, Bluetooth, Microsoft Vista Business/XP PRO and comes standard with additional battery that gives users a minimum of 13 hours uninterruptible usage.

In addition to this new product, Zinox also launched three other products, namely, the Zinox Bijimi Sage Laptop,  the Zinox Smart Plus and the Zinox Classmate Notebook, which can all hold power up to 7 hours respectively. These products all come in different colors, design, size, speed and have passed through the best coating certification laboratory in Japan and are affordable when compared to their quality and design.

The Zinox Bijimi Sage Laptop is powered by the latest Intel Dual Core T3400 processor, with 2.16GHz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, 15.4 inches display screen, Webcam, Bluetooth, Microsoft Vista Home Basic and comes standard with additional battery that allows users a minimum of 7 hours of uninterruptible usage with one year comprehensive warranty and a specially dedicated support hotline.

The Zinox Smart Plus is driven by the latest Intel Atom Processor and certified by Intel as a lead product for 2009 for highly mobile but knowledge acquisition focused citizens. It has 10.2 inch screen, 1.6 GHz, 1GB RAM, 60 GB HDD, 1.3 mega pixel camera, Wi-Fi antenna, 2 USB (2.0) ports, headphone and microphone jacks, 6 cell Li-ion battery, Realtek audio system, and a 1-year comprehensive warranty.

The Zinox Classmate Notebook tailored towards celebrating the efforts of scholars and students, has outstanding performance with an 8.9” screen, 1.6 GHz, 30GB storage, 512 MB RAM, 1.3 Mega Pixel Camera, Wi-Fi Antenna, with a choice of Win XP Starter Edition or Linux as operating system with lots of software installed as standard with a 1-year comprehensive warranty.

Already, over 16,000 units of the Classmate Notebook have been sold, but I’m not sure how much each costs. My guess is, if the product was launched this year and has already sold that much, then it should be affordable to students and startups. I think it would probably sell more than the other products. Again, the fact that users can choose Linux as operating system makes it more appealing to users who are bored with Windows.

Now, this seems to be a huge competition for foreign brands such as HP, Dell, Acer, etc and perhaps Apple would really need to go back to the laboratory, if it intends to compete in the Nigerian market. For a 13-hour battery life laptop, you can become a workaholic.

I’m impressed with these innovations from Zinox and expect more in 2009 and beyond.

Oh my Goodness, I am tearing, because you are comparing a MacBook to a PC. I am a MacBook User, enough said.

@Kayode - How does that relate to the news?

Your title: “If You Can’t Buy A MacBook, Get A Zinox Notebook Laptop”

You said : “perhaps Apple would really need to go back to the laboratory, if it intends to compete in the Nigerian market”

I do hope you know even this Zinox cant compete in a benchmark test with a DELL XPS, and the MacBook PRO beats the DELL XPS in performance etc…

Still, your previous comment doesn’t make any sense at all.

If you are patient enough to read, you’ll see that neither the title nor the post is suggesting a comparison between a MacBook and a PC.

Yes, I also said Zinox would become a ‘huge competition for foreign brands such as HP, Dell, Acer, etc’., as they are gradually capturing the Nigerian/African market. That includes Apple.

You should read before you rant.

    @ I am ranting -> wow

In product development, customer target dynamics play an important role in the design and later the marketing and perhaps even the pricing.

When MACBOOK designs or any of those you claim would be competing with Zinox in Nigeria, using your price factor, you would note that we already have products that are very cheap are well featured like the ACER’s in the Nigerian market.

The question is , do they have as much grip of the market? No Infact Nigerians do not like ACER, they prefer a pricey one, the HP, WHY?

The title shows an attention to the MacBook, and its not designed for just any user to buy from the shop, so suggesting that apple needs to redesign for Nigeria makes me tear.

13 hours battery life? Wow! That means work till PHCN brings light’. Though i’m not a zinox fan , i think extended battery life is a good move.
I wish other brands could redesign to suit the power crises Nigeria.

The long battery life is obviously very necessary for residents of Nigeria. I wonder though, if the 13 hour figure is reality.

There is no mention of the new products on their website. :-)

    Thanks, Oyelaja.

@Kayode - Perhaps I could ask one of my friends at Zinox to offer you a job. You seem brighter than I thought:-)

loy, haba…..you are gradually turnning this to a clash of personality

address issues instead of attacking personalty

  11. waka-about, 12. March 2009, 15:24

    @Gbenga - very well said.

And is it ” that gives users a minimum of 13 hours interruptible usage” or ” 13 hours un-interruptible usage”? ;-)

oops, just started my research on this and the reviews aren’t looking good…

  16. Mr. Sea, 14. March 2009, 15:14

    Loy,

I would like to start by saying I have been following your blog for quite sometime and I’m quite impressed by what you are doing and what you aim to achieve. It is time we (Nigerians and Africans in general) reduce our reliance on foreign manufactured products and support our own. Our reliance on imported products has the potential to cripple our economy in that the dollar continues to strengthen against the Naira which common sense will tell you it eventually will trickle down to the consumers.

Zinox is on the right track with the release of the laptops, they are a relatively young company and for them to have gotten this for is a sign of better things to come. What all should remember is companies like Apple, Acre, Dell, HP etc have been around for decades and have learned from their mistakes. If you look into each companies history you will see, their first few product releases where really not anything to write home about and on top of that extremely over priced.

With that said, Loy I have a bone to pick with you. “If you can’t by a macbook get a Zinox… instead?” I know it’s a way of attracting attention to the post but damn! When I first saw it my first thought was that Zinox has released a comparable laptop to the Macbook and are introducing it a lower price point.

Anyways no need crying over spilled milk, much respect to you. Hopefully one of my upcoming projects will be featured here. Shameless plug by the way!

    Cheers!

@Mr. Sea - Thanks for the compliments.

“When I first saw it my first thought was that Zinox has released a comparable laptop to the Macbook and are introducing it a lower price point.”

You’re right - Should have thought about that one:-)

I think its a new trend. I just saw a dell (latitude E6400) laptop with 19 hours battery life. What i don’t know yet is how pocket-friendly these laptops are?
