My Opinion: about the winners
I think Solomon deserves the Bloggers’ Choice Award. She’s He’s been very consistent and connects with virtually the whole Nigerian blogosphere. I think her his popularity also earned her him the award. Again, to be awarded the Best Political Blogger (Nigerian Curiosity) is another proof of her his contributions to the blogosphere. Even though I don’t like politics, I personally enjoy her his thoughts and think she he can make a very good CNN Political Ticker Pundit. Update: Solomon is a female blogger.
Yeah, Bella Naija is no doubt the best entertainment blog. But for best use of media, I’m not very sure. Good Girl Naija is very impressive. I didn’t know about this blog until it was nominated. I think the author deserves the award, as the blog looks very clean and professional. Kudos, girl!
Afrobabe - I wonder how this blog won Best Use of Visuals??? The blog is not accessible, until you click on a link that lets you continue to view the blog. The page has a content warning that states:
Some readers of this blog have contacted Google because they believe this blog’s content is objectionable. In general, Google does not review nor do we endorse the content of this or any blog.
My Opinion: about the awards
I think the awards have been successful, even though I was skeptical, particularly because the announcement was very sudden and the awards left out other important categories for a quality blogger awards. However, I hope there would be a lot of improvements on this awards for next year, as the awards generally lack that style and class we’ve seen in the global blogosphere.
The organisers can take a peek at the SA Bog Awards 2009, and I’ll hope they don’t hit their head on the wall, because I believe Nigeria can do better than what we just did.
Anyway, let’s give them credit and congratulations to the winners!
I suggest that before you make these lists you should post a request for submissions. So you don’t miss some very important entries, for example:
The ex school nerd - http://madeinnaija.blogspot.com/
Things are changing in Nigeria…. Good result so far!
Solomon is a she lol.
Its nice to encourage ourselves especially young and upcoming bloggers, but i still feel we can do better as Nigerians.
All the same, im happy that the Nigerian web space is becoming more dynamic
Cool. Its a pity http://www.exschoolnerd.com didn’t win.
BellaNaija is real hard work
You are on my blogroll, would you return the favour?
Naija blog awards?
Indeed.
Anyway, when are we coming for the “owambe” party?
@ Oz, lol.
Yes, Solomon is female.
@Oz and Aloofar - How was I to know??? Lol. Thanks, I’ve updated.
Test
Thank you for the compliment. Vera’s site address is verastic.com, Afrobabe can be reached through afroliciousbabe.com and Jaycee’s blog address is light-her-lamp.blogspot.com.
I think Afrobabe’s blog has a reputation for referring to or mentioning sex, so her visuals relate to sex. That is why her site has that warning, and she won for best visuals because her visuals relate to her blog topic.
The number of Nigerians bloggers is staggering, and it’s impossible to capture everyone, especially since certain types of bloggers tend to associate mostly with bloggers who cover similar topics. The SA blog awards example is a good one…we just need to find someone to take up the mantle! I think the NBA organizers should be commended for the work they did on these awards…they put a lot into it and it shows.
@Good Naija Girl - Thanks for the info. I’ve updated.
I have to agree with your overall perspective on the awards. I also question how the list of bloggers was devised. Judging from the awards blog and their list of “Citizens” there are some excellent and consistent Nigerian bloggers not even listed and I unashamedly include myself in that list along with Oro, Timbuktu Chronicles, Grandiose Parlor, Chxta and Kayode Ogundamisi (blogs on Facebook). Nonetheless, Nigerian Curiosity and SolomonSysdelle most deservedly won both Bloggers Choice and Best Political blog - her writing stands tall amongst African bloggers let alone Nigerian ones. I also was happy to see The Activist win though disappointed that it was her theme rather than the excellent and daring content of her blog was recognised. Finally it is unclear who organised these awards and I believe something like this it should be open and transparent as to who is organising the awards.
PS I also forgot to mention why was there not a “technology” category? This seems to me to be a very unfortunate omission on the part of the organisers.
You guyz did not Include Kayode Ogundamisi ( Most hit political blogspot on Face-Book) You must be kidding, Sokari your are right, I sourced Ogundamisi’s facebook blogpage from a western Media friend and its been a daily tonic. Amazed at the interactive nature and the rapid influence its gaining in Diaspora, someone would want to study it as a new form of political engineering. I think the orgerniser’/s need to do something better next time if you want to gain credibilty. Bellanijer is Cool, and u all missed out on Swandak, Gosh. Do u blogspot at all? or just some friends coming together to give awards?
didn’t know bloggong would go this far.
cool
