Breaking News: Etisalat Nigeria CTO Quits
![]()
Today, it was announced that Etisalat Nigeria is looking for a new Chief Technical Officer (CTO) to replace Damoye Oyesiku, who is quitting the Nigeria’s fifth GSM network operator, for reasons we are not sure about. No, this is not another April Fool joke.
Update: Etisalat Nigeria CEO, Steven Evans is dissapointed that Damoye Oyesiku has decided to leave Etisalat. His words:
We recognise and appreciate the contribution of Mr. Oyesiku to the success of our business in Nigeria and this dinner is in recognition of the significant contribution he has made towards the rollout of our services across Nigeria. I would like to say how much I have enjoyed working with Damoye in my short time here, and also to say how disappointed I am that he has decided to leave.
According to Technology Times,
Technology Times checks reveals exclusively today that the Etisalat Nigeria CTO has tendered his resignation to the management of the mobile phone company.
An official spokesperson of Etisalat confirmed to Technology Times anonymously today that Oyesiku is quitting the mobile phone company but said that both parties are parting, “on a cordial note.” He did not give further details.
We think that this is very strange because, Damoye recently left MTN Nigeria three days after he was named to replace an ex-CTO of the South African mobile operator who also left under controversial circumstances. Before joining Etisalat Nigeria as Chief Technical Officer, Mr. Oyesiku headed MTS First Wireless.
We wonder what’s chasing this guy.

Could it be that he has bitten a little more than he can chew? MTN and etisalat are very large corporations not only in Naija but globally. It could be possible he just does not have the skill sets for a position such the CTO…
Just a thought.
ARE YOU SAYING FOR SURE THAT THE YOUNG MAN. HAS NOT LEFT HIS OFFICE IN THE CASE OF RESIGNATION ?
The young man has to be consulted before any action will be taking,Etisalat is large company and dosn’t have to be suppressed for any reason, we value Etisalat, Nigeria and it’s states and communities enjoys the services and glamour of Etisalat, so proper settlement has to be made at immediate effect,
think about it.
May be he wants to set up his own gsm company.
Damoye left MTN as a sign of respect and loyalty to his boss Dem (Ademola Elesho) who was booted out of MTN.
Damoye was the 3rd member of the notorious group called the 3bad boys comprising Dem(former MTN CTO), and Abbey (Abiodun Adeoye -former head of RF polanning and Optimization)These were Nigerian expartriats recruitted by MTN from abroad at the time. These guys single handedly looted MTN under the guise of network rollout that the South Africans were forced to dilute their power and responsibilities. For those of us who worked at MTN with these guys, it was an ‘open’ secret they made a lot of money from MTN outside their salaries.
The three of them went to invest the money they looted from MTN at MTS. DEM was the CEO, Damoye was made the CTO and Abbey was made the head of the Network Rollout project. After just 2years of running MTS, they were forced to accept that what goes around comes around. MTS became almost extinct. When it became apparent that MTS was a sinking ship, the ‘3bad boys’ left.
Etisalat should have done a thorough background check on Damoye. They would have seen that there is more about the guy than the ‘phoney’ American accent he acquired.
