Naijapals vs Blueworld - Who Really is Facebook of Africa?

Have you ever been to naijapals.com?

What about Blueworld.co.za?

[Update: Photos have been updated]

If you’re a social networking freak, I bet you should know these sites. Since I’m one, I decided to take a peek at the social networking scene in Africa.

What did I find?

Hundreds of social networks from Africa offering interesting features and products. However, these two sites got my attention - Nigeria’s Naijapals and South Africa’s Blueworld - so much that it got me wondering which one of them is Africa’s Facebook. My curiousity led me to contacting the guys behind these sites and I’m going to share with you the information they shared my way.

But first, what are they?

Naijapals.com is Nigeria’s leading social networking site with a cool green interface that reflects Nigeria’s national colours of green/white/green. I personally describe the site as Nigeria’s Hi5.

Blueworld.co.za is South Africa’s leading and most vibrant online social community with a nice blue interface that relaxes your mood whenever you visit the site. The site has already been described as SA’s own Facebook by the TimesTechno, as seen in the photo below.

Linkdem, Nigeria’s Version of LinkedIn?

If you are looking for any version of leading sites around the world, Nigeria probably has all. No big deal. Personally, I’ve seen several Nigerian sites claiming to be a Nigerian version of top sites such as Facebook, Myspace, eBay, Youtube, etc

Perhaps Linkdem is not the Nigerian version of LinkedIn, the world’s leading business and professional networking site, but the name sounds like LinkedIn, doesn’t it? The word, “Linkdem” uses “dem”, a Nigerian slang word for “them” with the idea of linking people (them) together.

Linkdem is a new business networking site that connects friends and professionals worldwide. Now on beta launch, the site claims to be the best site now to connect with CEO’s and other professionals, share ideas, and create business opportunities. Hmmm…I wonder where that leaves LinkedIn, Perfspot and Xing.

The site features videos, music, games, albums amongst other social networking tools. The site’s design is not ground-breaking like we find in other top professional networking sites, but offers an interesting online community of business people.

Check it out!
